I've been pulling together all of the elements of my fall mantel and was a little all over the place, but I knew two things:
1. I definitely wanted to use brown and gold.
2. I wanted a "Give Thanks" sign.
Not to get sidetracked, but this definitely falls under the heading of "projects I would use a Silhouette for." I have been wanting one for about 2+ years and lately I've been trying to make a note of projects that I would use it for to try to justify the purchase :)
Anyway, since I don't currently have a Silhouette, I found the next best thing for this project...stick-on glitter letters from Michael's.
I also lucked out with a raw wood frame for $4 on clearance. The only real challenge for me was that the frame had an 11x14" opening, so the 12x12" scrapbook paper I was planning to use was too narrow. Fortunately, Michael's also has larger sheets of colored paper (for watercolor painting, I think.) So, I sprayed my raw wood frame brown with Liquitex in "raw umber," cut the paper to size and stuck the letters on using a note card along the frame as my straight edge.
Maybe the notecard isn't the most precise tool, but it did the job and I am really happy with the results. Once the letters were on to my liking, I replaced the glass in the frame and voila!
